Who raises just ONE breed?

pips&peeps :

I just raise one breed. Guess which kind....

I will begin a project on improving the size and lack of egg color in the silver variety.

The buffs need work in the egg color.

I am starting another line of lavenders. Which is a huge project.

There is lots to work on within this one breed with the eight varieties and I don't understand why people want to create more when what we have is far from perfect and needs so much work.

pips&peeps, you state points that few can arugue with.

My laying house has been dispersed and I have no other breeds of chicken as of next weekend when the lady picks up the 8 hens I am holding for her. I will only have orpingtons at that point.

I'm only *raising* sussexes at this point, although I am getting a few EE and sexlink pullets as layers.

My intention with the sussexes is to hatch a good bunch of 'em each year, and select for laying ability in the hens and carcass size/quality at 16 wks in the cockerels. We'll see how it works out.

Moody Chicken, I don't have a clue about what a "modern" is; never have heard of them. Good luck with your efforts with them and your Old English. Sure wish I knew what an Old English looked like too. I'm really super-ignorant on breeds. It drives me crackers when people use intitials for various breeds on here. I just ain't informed on all the breeds.

Oh, sorry!

MGB = Modern Game Bantam
Moderns were bred from Old English Game back in the 1800s. They're a fantastic breed.

OEGB = Old English Game Bantam
OEs are a very old breed and can trace their lineage right back the the jungle fowl. They're also wonderful!

LOL, didn't realize that I didn't resize the MGB female pic. That's not to scale.

Thanks, those "moderns" are really striking, and your old English game bantams are very, very pretty.
