Yeah, I realize this but you're not going to be wearing your competition clothes for training are you, and infact you likely won't wear your competition clothes up until about a half hour to 15 minutes BEFORE your place in the show. I have a pair of muck around pants for riding and the barn, and my show pants and jacket... I don't wear my show outfit until 15 minutes before I show.

i was going to put on the show coat about 5 minutes beforse i have to go in the ring

Lots of men ride endurance in very skin-tight breeches, they just wear a long t-shirt over it

Since I've been to quite a few endurance rides this summer, I've seen men wearing everything from Wranglers to shorts with lycra tights under them to your normal breeches. And what they wear didn't reflect on how they did. One of the best men riders I saw was from Rushcreek Arabians in Neb. and he ALWAYS wore Wranglers.

But I've seen some very good riders, usually training a new endurance horse, in breeches. I guess I never thought to much about it. All I know if you are going 25 or 50 or 100 miles, you definitely want to be comfortable. And to me, having jeans rubbing me raw with the seams and twisting on me are NOT comfortable. Give me breeches any time.

ok..i tried to ride dressage (mrs geoaware is a great dressage rider)...but to be honest, dressage saddles do not have the room for um...boy dangley bits. So my dressage career ended pretty fast!

My husband, who used to do lower-level dressage, has a t-shirt that says "Real Men Don't Have Room For A Saddle Horn"

(I hope that is not considered too adult for this forum, if so, I apologize).

I need one of those to wear around here LOL

I ride Dressage. I'm not really into it too much...I just think it helps me and my horse become more overall -rounded...

I'm sorry, this topic has gone on for pages and I don't have the time to read through everyone's posts, but your mom thinks you are gay because you ride Dressage instead of doing those western events? That's horrible and very stereotypical!

Let me tell you that (english-riding) Equestrian sports are huge in Europe. Many of the top men-riders in the world compete in Show Jumping and Dressage and I have found the majority to be straight. I have a few trainers that came from Germany (one a Jumper, one a Dressage rider), both are men, both are straight, both are married and have a beautiful family, and on top of that are making tons of money working in the horse industry... On the other hand, I also have western-riding friends; one who is gay...

I am a girl and I ride pretty much all the disciplines but mostly do the Show Jumping (english) and Reined-Cow (western) events. Since "Western is more of a 'man's' sport" does that make me a lesbian? Since I ride both English and Western, does that make me Bi? Something doesn't seem to add up - I am [completely] straight.

There's nothing wrong with being gay, but stereotyping and assuming that this sport or this profession is only for one sex-preference is absolutely ridiculous.

(Your mom probably thinks that you must be gay because what kind of man would like to wear tight breeches? LOL...but still...that's just not right... :| )

I say if you like Dressage, just continue doing what you like! Good luck with everything.

Equest94 no my mom does not think im gay but she thinks that it looks gay to do dressage so she won't let me do it

^^^ Oh, sorry, lol....

As I have mentioned, I don't see anything "gay" about dressage... Dressage is a very good foundation on all other disciplines of riding; upper levels really rely on true mastery and skill... it can be a hard sport.

Also, (especially in Europe) many male riders continue to dress in military uniforms during competition:

^^^ IMO - that does not look gay at all...

Again, if you like it, then why not? Just tell her you could be out doing a lot worse... lol
