I've added numerous roost to my aviary & have noticed my Bob Whites sleeping on the roost all night long. I still have the ones that group up & sleep together on the ground but some have started roosting instead of sleeping with their covey. I'm betting when the cold weather starts they will return to their covey's.

I always assumed bobs roost because the wild male I had around my property was always high up in the pine trees calling for a mate.

its probably the same thing as saying, quail don't really get broody.

we all know its rare, same with roosting probably

YEA! PICSPICSPICS!!!

I don't have any pics of them roosting at night & won't get any. The last time I shined a light in the aviary at night it scared the you know what out of them. It was bing bong time. Here's some roosting in day light hours. I added some 2x6's on the sides as well & they sleep on them at night. I noticed last night they were roosting side by side with their buddy's or girlfreinds.

When I built my first Quail pen 16' x 8' I put so many bare branchs in there barely had room for feeders & waterer, left it that way for over 3 months, not once did I ever see 1 of them on the branchs, they were and still huddle in the corners. Have several other friends that do a few quail and they had the same outcome. So I took all of the branchs out.
It may not be a hard rule that they (caged) don't roost, but it's more true than not I'm thinking, and there are many on here that has had Quail for many many years and have not had them to roost. I think in everything there is always a few outside the box...... In the daytime yes they would get on the branchs but that's not roosting, most all get down at sundown. ( sounds like a song ), just thought of something that may make a differance, all my pens are 3 ft off the ground, maybe if you have a ground pen that would make them roost???

However they do not like to sleep on the floor of the aviary and will all get up on the railroad ties at night to roost...

My pen is 300 sq ft & I'm not trying to stir the pot but I wake up every morning at 3 AM & go outside & sure enough some of the Bob's are roosting in the windows. My pen is on the ground.
