I've candled mine. Five are definite. One is iffy. One was infertile.

On the other hand, I have guineas pipping right now!

Sorry to hear about your ankle. Hope you heal quickly!

I candled last night and all but 13 were fertile! So I now have 32 eggs fertile w/ good development!!!

They actually look like a teardrop. They're cute!

None have hatched yet but 5 have pipped. I'm trying to keep from having my nose glued to the incubator. LOL

On a side note: thank goodness I went in and checked on the guinea eggs. I glanced in at the duck eggs and the temp in my 'bator was 108!!! UGH, I hate LG's! I have it back down and stablized again. Don't have any clue why it jumped so high!

how's your ankle doing, starry?

My ankle is feeling a bit better Laurie. I had the same thing happen with my duck eggs not that high of a jump but like 103. maybe as they grow biger and start to move they generate heat

i dont know. I have spent so many hrs glued to the bator . And we had to move the new homemade bator to our bedrooom were the room temp is more stable. In the middle of the night hubby finds me checking temp LOL. I know I will get no sleep once they pip. The ducks seem to take forever to go from pip to zip . Well off to candle duck eggs crossing fingers they are all growing. I will post pics if i see anything LOL

So i checked eggs tossed 12 out of 40 11 were non fertile 1 blood ring. Some look a bit iffy all I can think is that the were getting a bit old had collected them a few weeks bk . I just put in the other 12 in the bator i had collected last week. The eggs feel cooler then the ones in my homemade bator even though temp reads 99. This is hard work LOL

I'm glad that your ankle's feeling better. We have a roo here that was dumped on our property back in March. He's not friendly but not mean. Just really skittish. We love him to pieces though. We give him leeway and know that he's afraid of us.

The rest of our chickens are under 12 weeks old.

Well I have the temps in the 'bator stablized again. Sheesh, I can't believe it went up that high but because I was in and out of that room constantly, it wasn't that high for very long. Less than a half hour, I'd guess.

On another note, I have 4 baby guineas that have hatched so far! 3 more to go although I think one may not hatch. Fingers crossed!

its been 8 days now for me,the mommas (both of them) are still taking good care of the eggs,I candled one on day 6, there are so many eggs that its tough for one momma to cover them all and theres always one egg that seems to be poking out a little when one of the mommas go to feed,so I candled it and I think I saw some development,I'm very thankful for that.I may try to candle them all this weekend.Talk to you soon. BTW am I the only one on here that doesnt know how to use the special smiley's?

I haven't candled yet. I'm waiting until Day 10 hopefully I will be able to tell more about them. 4 are greenish/blue so may be hard to see. I've never candled before so I hope I can see what I need to see. LOL!
