yup..the boys are more raspy sounding..

I picked out 1 duckling from the bin at the feed store this spring. The one I picked up was squeeking its head off......She is definitely a girl, probably has the biggest mouth of them all!

My son got a duckling from a friend of mine, and I made sure he picked a really squeeky one....another girl

The two ducks in the 'duck, duck, goose' picture are from my own ducks' eggs. I had 13 or 17 hatched, don't remember. These were the only 2 I kept, cause they are cayugas (just need to molt that white off

) and they were big time squeekers.....both girls

It definitely works, if you have others to compare to.

thats the thing..having another one to compare it too. if not, its really hard!

Well do I qualify with my eggs? LOL!!! My husband was upset about loosing the ducklings too....

But that was mostly cause I made him bury them.

He also said that if I wanted to get into the hooby of killing birds that it would be cheaper to just buy some ammo for the 22 LR! Very funny DH!

Maybe that's why little girls have started hanging out in the four foot high chicken nest box. LOL. Don't ask me how they get in there considering they refuse to try to fly, but they do.

The drakes have decided that they wanna try making some duck/chicken and duck/guinea babies too!!

I tried to explain that it doesn't work that way but they just don't listen. Just like any teenager, they think they know it all.

Once you get 'an ear for it', you can sex them this way with probably at least 90% certainty, but you need to be very familiar with the sounds of baby ducks! I'm sure next spring I'll feel like a newb again!
