Who wants to incubate some duck eggs?

Yeah the funny thing...My husband was picking at me and thought I had RIP on my RIR's and said "what are you getting a head start on the funeral?" and then he said that on the runner ducks I was telling them to run! Har har har!

BTW..what kind of bator is that!? I could get in big trouble with one that big!

That would be my new mini fridge bator my hubby was so sweet to help me with. It was an old one we had that didn't work right any more so we went for it. I spent $18 on the light in the top. $9 on the light in the bottom, $10 on the plexiglass, $2 on the old fashon thermo/hydro, .88 cent on the wood to make the boxes and about $3 on the red duct tape! LOL! I got the thermostat from an old aquarium heater. The top light has a dimmer switch and is kept on dim The light on the bottom is on high and hooked into the stat so it cuts off and on. I also have a little battery operated fan in the bottom incase I need it. I'm also going to use the bottom to hatch so chicks or ducklings wont fall off the shelf's. My other bator I was using didn't hold humidity well at all and shrink wrapped my babies.

Cutting the opening was a bear but that was mostly because my husbands drimmel is a piece of junk! If you have a good working tool like the drimmel it would be no problem. The rest was a piece of cake! The fridge it's self is insilated. When it came to the window I cut the piece of plexiglass in half and attatched one side to the outside and one to the inside so it's dubble panned. I didn't insulate around the window to allow for air flow. It's holding temps and humidity PERFECTLY!! It can be a bit of a pain to get looking pretty (especially since we had to use a hammer and chisel to cut out the window) but I'll be danged if it doesn't do a heck of a job. I have to hand turn but it get's it temps and what not back up quick with out spikes.

Well she's not sure. They were part of a mixed special. They are all yellow, so I'm thinking Pekin. If you didn't notice, I have five ducks and three are drakes.

I'm hoping to get some more ducks so that I don't have to weed out the drakes.

We are attached to all of them, but the poor little girls.
