Who will lay first!? *pics included* UPDATE: First Egg 8/14

I'm not working today so I'm stalking the chickens. Opened up the back of the coop to watch the comings and goings of everyone. Sunny has been all over the place this morning making quite a racket!

She's been in the nestbox for about 20 minutes now

It appears that Sunny is our first layer! I watched closely this morning. She wondered about making that noise and then sat in the nest box for over an hour. There was another egg, same size shape and color as #1 when I checked

My guess is Speck and Camilla aren't far behind... kinda bummed that Sunny isn't laying green/blue eggs.. guess she got a different gene for egg color

Now... to wait for the others..

I'm still waiting for my 2 leghorns to start laying - they're 20 weeks today and one of them hasn't even grown her comb yet

The other one looks ready but still no eggs

Luckily, I have other hens that lay - 2 are 11 months old, the other 4 are 6 (started couple of weeks ago)

So plenty of eggs for me and family.

SOO.. Speck is sitting sitting in the nest box this morning

Let's hope today is the day for her!!

Sunny has given me an egg a day since she started on Sunday. A great layer from the start! YaY!

I was RIGHT!! Speck laid this morning too!! For those of you waiting and watching for the "signs".. both Speck and Sunny became very friendly in the few days before they started laying. Speck flew up on the arm of my chair a couple of days ago and sat there letting me pet her for 15 minutes.

Once one starts laying they all seems to follow. I have now 4 hens laying eggs out of my 9

Both Brown and Pale Blue
We will be swimming in eggs before you know it.
