Well, well, well, you leave a post for a few hours and about fifteen new pages appear! Mrs. AK, off at the Alaska state fair, has no idea where her original, brief post has led!

I continue to be amazed at the variety of opinion among us chicken lovers, also at the completely unfathomable differences that I don't begin to know how to bridge . . . I share people's feelings that itis great to talk about this stuff when we so often ignore it, as the world keeps on turnng, kids keep heading off for school, dinner needs to get made.

So thank you to my inadvertent fan club! That was pretty funny and I wish I'd been on line to enjoy it. Girl crushes right back atcha!

But lets not just all keep restating our platforms. Let's try maybe asking each other questions. That might be really interesting.

By the way, Brarawck O'Brahma produced another lovely egg this morning, clean and sweet, with one wee downy feather clinging to the underside.

She is a good bird.

Wishing you all soft rain and warm sun. Despite all our ill treatment of each other here on earth both still seem to be provided free by the heavens above, to the rich and the poor, to the loving and the angry, to the people and their chickens.

1. Those with more wealth pay a higher portion of the taxes but not a high percentage of their income. This is what a lot of people have a problem with. For example I personally pay double (percentage wise) what Warren Buffet does each year. Not to mention his money isn't hit for Social Security -- so that's an extra chunk he doesn't pay. But essentially you're correct. 97% of taxes are paid by those living above the median income of $48k/yr (something like that). I don't remember the exact number but around 40% of taxes are paid by the top 5% of the population.

2. That's true, but it's more complicated than that too.

3. You're wrong. Now, a majority of people in America aren't poor. Not to mention a majority of the poor aren't near as poor as those in developing countries. But I consider poor as people without basic services, including access to healthy food and heating --- which a lot of people don't have access to. Especially healthy food.

4. Let's be honest, america basically got it's start from whiners. I mean we fled other countries who regulated us or let us live in poverty and offered no way out.

It's not easy for the average person to move from poverty up. I did it. I wouldn't wish that journey on anyone. Don't think I'm saying people shouldn't have to work for it, but when you're born into poverty you're effectively born into discrimination. Maybe you just don't look the part, or you don't talk the part. I grew up with people who didn't know that their thick accents were an issue to employers and so they have had near impossible times moving forward.

That type of thing are some of the key issues that can make it very difficult for someone to move forward.

Also for everyone knocking Barack Obama's fiscal campaign proposals, you should probably know: After all of his extra programs are paid, the cuts and increased taxes on people making more than $250k bring the budget within around a $200bil deficit. McCain on the other hand, after his tax cuts are in place and his cost cutting is in place we are still at record high deficits, in the $800bil range.

Let's see when our yearly budget is around $3tril and our National Debt is what $9tril -- McCain is digging the hole way deeper -- not to mention the route McCain is on we're going to have a new cold war which is going to cost even more. Obama, well, at least we'd be in better shape than we are now, still bad, but at least it's better.

I'm trying to keep tabs on it so I can share with her when she calls home latter in the day. But dang 5 new pages since I went to bed last night!

All I got to say is I absolutely LIKE her, she sounds like a do-er, she's the only candidate that actually has her accomplishments mentioned with her name, I'm still wondering what the other 3 have actually done .
I do not see color in people at all. But Obama - he has this smug smirk on his face.
She is a real person, intelligent and no nonsense.

Can you enlighten me as to what his position was?

Obama is anti-gun. He has commented that he would agree to a ban of ALL semiautomatic weapons. I am pro-gun. I passed the FBI checks to get my concealed carry permit. But under Obama I would loose my right to carry the only way I can defend myself and my kids out here in the country. My carry gun is a semiauto and out here where I live if you scream for help no one will hear you and 911 will take a while to get a sheriff out to you. But Obama would take my gun away. Not because I'm a criminal but because he wants to. The criminal that waits until my husband is at work and kicks in the window will still have his semiauto because he won't follow the law and turn his in.

Ban semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions. (Jul 1998) From http://www.ontheissues.org/Barack_Obama.htm

What's really sad is you see a moral equivalence there

And yet, on this board, culling because of deformities, blindness, and "not true to standard" is something that is talked about all the time... This is after said chicks are born. It's worth thinking about if you're going to use raising chickens as a platform for your argument against human abortions. Does one or has one culled members of one's own flock? What is the value of an animal's soul vs. a human's soul? This would be a great topic for another thread, because it would probably become very controversial.

As for me, yes, if I was raped, I would have an abortion (actually, I'd just go get the "Plan B" pill that day!). If I didn't, I'd probably kill myself out of psychological despair and take us both out. If there was a way to remove the embryo and give it to one of you people with a uterus to grow, I'd gladly do it. I just know I'm not psychologically or emotionally strong enough to go for nine months, daily reminded of being raped. I couldn't do it. The rapist would have won.

However, if my husband and I had sex and we "accidentally" had a child and it happened to have defects (which, by the way is exceedingly possible for us anyway due to my husband's medical history -- trust me, I know the risks), we would keep it, because it would be our OWN child. Sure this is complicated, but I am an American individual and I have a right to my own beliefs about my body and life, just like every other American does. I don't need to government telling me what to do with myself if I am raped. A bunch of old men are not going to care or understand.

To gamebirdsonly...
You won't change my mind, and I won't get into a debate with you about it (I am done with you on this topic), because (a) this is not the place; it could get heated or rude, and (b) I (and others) can see that you're still not understanding that what you're saying about minorities is racist. You aren't a good moral role model when you still believe that Those People aren't as valuable as Your Own Kind, so why should I regulate my actions according to your moral thermometer?

Perhaps before you slam someone, you might want to take the time to actually read the post that was written. You obviously saw what you wanted to see in that. I have read lots of your posts before and they seemed well written and intelligent. The above statements have made me change my mind on that. Really, please take the time to actually read before you slam me next time.
