Whole foods?

Look at the differences between white bread and multigrain bread and whole wheat...

There is not much difference.

If you're talking calories, you'd be correct.... But if you're talking nutritional value, I would have to disagree. Whole grain is far superior to most processed whites. Some difference is just the wheat used, white wheat versus red wheat; but the entire process of milling the grain to a fine powder leeches most if the nutrients out :(

And to sample the results of that, um...this may be TMI lol, but refined white will plug me up for days, where whole wheat keeps me regular ;)

In fact, even my kids can't stand white bread because of the texture and constipation factor :P

PS, K, you need more sleep than 3 hours! :P

Wow that's kinda scary. Or i dont k ow if that's the right word but disappointing too

Thoughts on alcohol in food?

Alcohol like cooking Sherry and wines? Most if it burns away, just imparts a flavor factor and possibly ups the sugars. But just an odd tidbit, soy sauce is fermented and has trace amounts of alcohol too..

Like ice cream. Thought this looked delicious so picked it up but then saw this. I looked it up and found tons of info lol well not tons, most of it was on rum raisin, but still, i found a Muslim blog, a sobriety blog (both forums actually), etc. Lol i was so **** paranoid. There's probably like no alcohol in it.

It does taste good tho lol

Also i heard vanilla extract is alcohol too? Like 35% i read on one blog but probably not true. And cough syrup of course so no need to be paranoid haha

And apparently lots of companies also use alcohol to extract flavor from vanilla beans and strawberries too.

So idk why im so worried lol

Well, the ice cream,I think it's probably ok... Vanilla, wow yeah pure vanilla extract can be 50% alcohol, which is 100 proof. Lemon extract is actually 97% alcohol!!!! That's like, 180 proof! But those are used in baking, and baking burns off the alcohol, so its OK there too. Just don't guzzle plain raw vanilla, and don't ask how I know that lol :P

On the grains, I hope you can see the picture....

From left to right are Buckwheat flour, millet flour, and Spelt flour. Each have different amounts of fat, fiber, protein, and iron. And that's just from this label. Further research might find more lutein in the Spelt, vitamin B12 in the Buckwheat, and calcium in the millet.

And the flavor and textures are way different too... I'm experimenting with these for breads and stuff. So far, Buckwheat pancakes are pretty tasty if you like a cornmealish texture and a nuttier flavor :)

Ha-ha yeah...yeah I did :P

It burns! Lol it happened to my youngest too; they thought the almond extract smelled so much like cherries that my eldest got my youngest to taste it... No, it does NOT taste like cherries, and it BURNS!

No I would not recommend trying it unless you want to taste and smell nothing but vanilla for a month :lau

* oh but DO try the Buckwheat pancakes, they're pretty tasty :)
