Just found this website this afternoon; great site, great advice and comradarie! We're in the far Chicago burbs, out by Plainfield/Joliet area. (And yes, it's getting down below zero tonight.) My wife just couldn't wait for spring and she ordered some hatching eggs from Gabbard's in AR (Barred rocks). Got lucky - when they arrived the second week of Dec, it was 56F, so we got lucky there. Then, the second week of incubation, we lost power for about 3 hours on a day when the temp outside was 0F - boy did it get cold fast in the house! Got the fireplace going, but by then the temp in the incubator got down to 86F, and to make it worse, the incubator was a little too close to the fireplace and then the temp shot up to over 105F before we knew it; also the one side of the styrofoam incubator partially melted! Despite all that, we did get 5 to hatch out. It's been a week and a half, and they're eatin and growin fast.
