Beautiful babies! Some look like the ones I've hatched out. Out of 19, lost three and one of those when it was pipping. I think it got suffocated when a couple newly hatched chicks sat on its egg where it was breathing before they were dried enough to put in the brooder. So 16 healthy chicks and nothing happening to the remainder of the 35 original eggs so far except I had to toss 3 stinky and weeping (that dried crystalized type). I tried taking pics and somehow set the exposure to dark/night time so Dear SIL showed me how to work that this morning;) Pics later today!

Put 7 Turbo's BLRW eggs in Sat nite and tossed one Sun morning but he others are doing well so far:) I've got nearly two each of the chicks except for 3 original "looking" - the others all have a twin;)

Great hatches everyone! This site is wonderful. I have learned a lot from all of you.

Suellyn,
My first hatch is doing great. I got 8 healthy chicks

from the 14 eggs.
I know the temperature went up for a few hours on my daughters wedding day. Unfortunately I was so busy that I did not catch it until later in the day.

I think that hurried the hatch. Oh well I got some beautiful babies!

Another question I need answered is My rooster is a beautiful silver spangled hamburg, the hens are white leg horns, buff orpingtons, and black australorp. Does this seem to be a problem? I dont mind having mixed breeds I just wonder if I should expect problems.
Thanks for any advice.

Just found this website this afternoon; great site, great advice and comradarie! We're in the far Chicago burbs, out by Plainfield/Joliet area. (And yes, it's getting down below zero tonight.) My wife just couldn't wait for spring and she ordered some hatching eggs from Gabbard's in AR (Barred rocks). Got lucky - when they arrived the second week of Dec, it was 56F, so we got lucky there. Then, the second week of incubation, we lost power for about 3 hours on a day when the temp outside was 0F - boy did it get cold fast in the house! Got the fireplace going, but by then the temp in the incubator got down to 86F, and to make it worse, the incubator was a little too close to the fireplace and then the temp shot up to over 105F before we knew it; also the one side of the styrofoam incubator partially melted! Despite all that, we did get 5 to hatch out. It's been a week and a half, and they're eatin and growin fast.
