Who's hatching around Jan 10? 1st try, Could use the "moral support!"

I tried hatching in the carton, they did fine but I couldn't see if the eggs rocked. Not a big problem but I did get nervous about not seeing them rocking. I have also heard about spraying the hot water in the bator, but not on the eggs to bring the humidity back up really fast. They do it all the time at my friends job. She works at the Sylvan Hieghts water fowl park in NC. They give educational tours for school alot, which means they open the bators alot. They always spray water in the bring humidity back up, being careful not to spray eggs and have no problems. Still no pips here how are everyone elses doing?

I'm getting ready to candle mine again, so I'll let you know. They looked a bit more 'together' in their development last night, so maybe they will hatch like they are supposed to. I should stop turning the one pekin egg tomorrow, and the others on Friday, unless the pekin has pipped by then. I might turn them an extra day or two, depending on how they look.

Well. my ducks still haven't pipped the membrane. It is still a bit early, and the pekin is the one that is due first. I set them (pekins and cayugas) two days apart, so there is a bit of a gap. The pekin is trying to pip, I can see it moving around a lot. I went ahead and added hot sponges, since I haven't been keeping it very wet. It has been about 60-65%, and it should be about 70, but I didn't want the bator to die again. Out of the cayugas, there are 12 total eggs. Three of them do not look full, but they still have good veins? I thought they were supposed to fade, but they haven't. One of those eggs looks like it might be a quitter, but I'm not sure. Anyway, there was one of the cayugas that I could see pushing on the membrane, so they are starting to get into position. They are not due until Sunday on the pekin and Tuesday on the cayugas, but the other pekins I hatched were early by 1 day. I'm not sure though, cause I was thinking it was Saturday and Monday on the due dates? It is so confusing sometimes!

Well, I ended up with 8 out of 9 BO eggs hatching. I used the egg cartons for the whole 3 weeks. No pips in the others so far, so I'll grab the chicks out this morning. The 9th egg was not developed at all. I candled once at the 1/2 way point. Don't know how I missed that.

I grabbed the chicks out and put them in the brooder. I did not anticipate such a drop in temp. Probably from the removal of the chicks body heat more than the quick opening of the bator. I can't adjust the heat on the bator without removing the entire top. I hope the temp gets back up there and it doesn't mess up the other26 eggs.

Today is hatch day for my 3 white silkie eggs. No more progress, although I hear an occasional "peep" and see an occasional rock of one egg. I don't know if the peeping is the same egg or a different one.

I really don't worry too much about another chick beating up on eggs that haven't hatched yet. It seems like the peeps of the 1st chick helps spur on some of the others. The ones that have been moved by a chick and didn't hatch, weren't going to hatch even if the chick didn't roll it.

I get some of those thick rubber bands and put one of those down on the bator floor for every egg I'm hatching. I put the egg in there and they can still rock but not roll, LOL. Of course if a chick hits an egg the rubber band isn't going to hold it but it does make a difference.
