Who's Hatching Ducks? Hatch With Us!! *Page 3*

Yeah, my Blue Swedish are from a place in Minnesota and a couple of slate runner eggs from a friend in MN as well.
My others are from Calebs Acre(Nancy), Shadyglade(Julia) and Critter Bazaar.

With candling its a bit harder to see with the duck eggs, that for sure. Though I have been able to see a little something with them that keeps my hopes up and my fingers crossed!

I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but the ones that have been incubating for a while, feel heavier?

Mags...we don't candle until 10 days in the incubator, then we take a small, but powerful LED MagLight Flashlight in a VERY DARK room. The LED light doesn't heat the egg. They actually weigh a little less as they mature.

I've got my hatching fingers crossed.

When I left for work tonight, we had 1 f/w Indian Runner hatched and at least 4 others pipped. At least I got to see 1 hatch on Mother's day!

That's a keeper photo. That's got to be a stock quality photo for publication!

Funny story, I just stuck my arm in her box with the camera, snapped the photo and ran like heck with her biting my heels

I'm glad it turned out!!

Ok, checking in here

been so busy with company I finally have a moment.

I got white call duck eggs from DuckyBoys (thanks

) and they are hatching now - one hatched last night but didn't make it. But, I have two pipped shells and two internal pips, so I am very hopeful (and trying my best not to touch them).

Now, of my own eggs, I get only one hatch per set (usually I set 5 at a time) and with DuckyBoys' eggs, shipped, I have gotten 5 pips so far - maybe my duck girl needs something in her diet - or maybe it is just because it's her first year laying?

I'll keep ya all informed and post pics if they hatch out well.

I am excited, and I REALLY want white call ducks, so I am nervous.

I did have one last call duck from my own hatch the other day (did I post that yet?) it's another black and I named it Crispy. My call duck girl has stopped laying - no eggs for two weeks, now - so I figure the white call duck eggs are the last of them I'll be doing this year.

But if those four hatch, then I'll have 15 call ducks to choose my keepers from

Not bad for my first year with ducks.

Once I get them all out and such, I'll make a post on Waterfowl threads with pics of the whole crew.

Who knew I could fall in love with ducks so easily?

Ok, got three fluffy white call duck babies (one not looking so good, is very lethargic, one more black hatching as I type).

Here is Crispy and the three fluffy white ones -- (and a couple of chicks I had to put it here to shut Crispy up - she wanted her chicks to play with).

One of the white babies has two little black spots on her back - they are so adorable

I am happy to have some whites, finally. Thanks so much DuckyBoys!!!!

No names yet. I believe Crispy is probably a girl - she is LOUD

the boys usually aren't so vocal, even right after hatch.

I'll have to come up with some gender neutral names for the whites - I also have 5 other greys to name, still. I think, of those, I have two girls and two boys, and the fifth one I am not sure yet.

So far I have a Squishy(girl yay!!) a Spiffy, a Sloopy, a Crispy and 8 other babies to name. Plus, I have the adults - Little Joe and DD.

The 15th is hatched, not sure if she'll make it, plus got one other hatching - so might end up with 16 to sort out.
