Who's Hatching Ducks? Hatch With Us!! *Page 3*

We are getting 12 muscovy duck eggs next week! This is our first time hatching anything, we have eight chicken eggs in the incubator now (one pipped this afternoon!) and then the duck eggs next week. Yippee:)

Hatching is an emotional roller coaster. My son and I candeled today because we have like 6 due to hatch next week and I have been trying to prepare him for the possibility that they might not make it. I don't think he believes me...

So far all my late term babies are still kicking but things can go wrong fast so I am not going to get my hopes up.

The one I had rocking pipped the wrong end!! It is breathing through the pipped shell, though, so maybe it'll still do ok.

The others got no action yet.

If it has a hole big enough to breath it should be fine. Just like chickens, it may need help since that end of the egg is so much smaller. I'm sorry that your other baby died.

Hopefully this egg I have of yours will hatch and be a GIRL!

How are your goose eggs doing?

And this is totally OT, but is your button still broody?

The wrong end pip is half out - looks like it might be a boy - but hard to tell, I think it's either a khaki or a splash (silver - blue variant - is very shiny light colored). Has light feet and bill. I hope the one you have will be a girl. Maybe this is what the khaki x blue will look like.

Goose eggs seem to be developing. Button went off the eggs, so I tossed them and have been saving to incubate again - figured it's worth a try to do 'em once more.

On a lighter note - my chicken eggs are almost all pipped (have 6 hatched so far) - only three that haven't pipped yet - might have a 100% hatch this time on those. Best hatch rate I've ever gotten was 75% .

Are yours standard or minis? (I have both). I can't wait til Mama has her baby this spring - not certain of the date, so been watching for signs - nothing yet, I thought it might be April, but maybe May ? Guess it'll happen when it happens.

I have her last baby - Nutter Butter (aka / Butters, the most adorable mini donkey in the world).

I just got a spotted mini Jack so I can breed her again later (and Butters when she gets old enough).

My duck is making progress.....very slow progress....LOL

Geez. Is hatching time something ducklings inherit from their dads? JJ took forever. The new ducklings are acting the same way.

JJ and the new ones all have the same dad but different moms.

I guess it could be an incubator thing too.

regardless...
