Who's Incubating in Nov. 2011 ?

I will hopefully get mine tomorrow from catdance and then getting more silkie eggs on Nov. 30 or Dec 1 as I want to hatch from christmas...

Ah...seems like most of you order your eggs ?

That would explain how you get so many at once to incubate.

Well, waiting I guess teaches patience.

Still waiting for the chickens to lay some eggs for the incubator. Every day we hope and check for them.

It does seem like it gets dark so early now. Maybe they don't like to lay when it's short daytime hours ?

Hopefully someday I'll have more eggs to report in the incubator. Our one egg should be hatching just a few days after we start adding in those Ameraucana eggs.

Are you all going to post your chickie pics ? We should start a thread called Hatched Chickies in Nov. 2011 or something. I have no chickies now so I'm not starting it.

Maybe when I get our first chickie, I will. I don't think the Marans count as chickies anymore. They have no chickie fluff left !

Everything I have read says that hens need 14hours of daylight to lay constant throughout the year. Some people use artificial light (I don't) to help keep their hens laying. Some chickens will lay no matter what.
I might post pics, it depends on if I remember too or not.

We just got into raising chickens a couple of months ago. We went to our first chicken auction last Sunday and came home with 5 more to add to our flock of 6! We now have 1RIR rooster and 2 RIR hens, 1 Columbian Wyandotte splash, a pair of Jersy Giants, 1 cochain and 3 barred rock hens, and last but not least.........Funky Chicken ( breeder was not sure what she is, but she is my chickie girlfriend ).

Anyway, we put 3 eggs into a tiny incubator and today, on day 23, one has a peck hole in it and I heard a tiny peep from inside!! We are so excited, and I am now so worried, hoping that when morning comes, our new one is here. But it has been several hours since I saw any progress in the hatch, hence the worry. No sign of anything from the remaining two eggs.

Any words of encouragement out there??

Well, I have 21 eggs in the bator now, due the 14th. I had decided not to incubate past September, but DH talked me into it. He loves chickies just as much as I do.

As for our chickens they are just from our backyard chooks, im not sure what type they are, they are brown LOL. But cute cant wait to see little versions of them

Just checked the tracking and my eggs are 'out for delivery'... so they should be there when I get home from work today....
