Who's Incubating in Nov. 2011 ?

What did you order ? How many ?

Hope they make it safe and sound. Never ordered eggs before. (hope they pack them well - bubble wrap around each egg?)

Let us know what kind of hatch rate you get !

I imagine you use an automatic egg turner, with that many eggs, it makes sense to.

What kind of silkie colors make up the 58 eggs ?

How do you manage chickie rearing with so many eggs ? And every week ? Wow ! That's some chickie production !!!

Do you sort the Silkie chickies at all (like separate out the ones with vaulted skulls ?)

You're so nice !

Do you charge them ?

Sounds like you could hatch a boatload of eggs !

No I don't charge them. My incubator can fit 342 eggs in it. There are 3 trays with 2 racks in each tray. Each rack holds 54 eggs. I set 1 or 2 racks weekly. I get about 4 dozen eggs a day from my birds but I sell most of them.

Curious.......do you sell your eggs as "table eggs" (for eating) or eggs for others to hatch ?

Do your racks have automatic turners, or you just "roll" them 3x a day ?

That's fun. You incubate about 50-100 eggs weekly ? That's a lot of chickies a week !

I can't imagine how much fun that many chickies would be ! Too cute ! Hope you can post a pic. I wonder what 100 chickies look like all so cute and fluffy and so many of them !

I guess it looks like those bins at the Tractor Supply Store around Easter ! Too many cute little fluffy chickies running around, all cheeping and just too adorable.

That sounds like a lot of fun, raising so many chickies. You're so lucky!

That's very soon!

Will you post your pics of your chickies ? I know I would love to see them ! I'm sure others would too. Who doesn't love a silkie chickie ?

Not sure about a Brahmas chickie, but would like to see a pic anyways ! Buff is a nice color !

That will be fun to see your mixed breeds chickies !

Will you post your chickie pics ?

When are they due to hatch ?

So, you only expect about 37 to hatch ?

Will try to get pictures.

Nov. 19th due date.

Hoping all will hatch, but 37 would be good.

Yes I do sell a lot of "table eggs" and yes the incubator has an auto turner. I have turned hand in the past but I eventually invested in turners for my table top styrofoam incubators too.

Here are some of the chicks from one hatch that I hatched out for someone else.

Aw, thanks !!

That pic is so much fun. If they were right there in front of me, I would have a hard time deciding which one to pick up first to check out and see how cute it is.

I think it would be that little light gray one. It caught my eye. Then I would want to check out a fluffy light yellow one. I love how cute their little eyes are.

Some even have some light colored eyes like our Marans chickies. So pretty.

But most chickies have little dark, beady eyes.

Do you have a pic of tons of them where you can see their faces ?

I can't wait for our one chickie to hatch and to add more eggs into the incubator. I just love raising the chickies. They are always so cute and sweet and make the funniest little noises. Some cry a lot more than others and you have to spend time talking to them. I think they get lonely if there is just one.

Do you think they fight more if there are more of them ?

Actually I find it easier to integrate chicks of different ages then older birds. I have some 3 and 4 week old chicks together and no fighting at all and some 1 and 2 week old chicks I just put together. I did just integrate some that were hatched on June 23rd and July 16th with some that were hatched on April 12th. Actually I was surprised how well they got along. They have been sharing the same coop but it is divided so they were next to each other for about a month. I had some teenage boys in there but sold them to make room for the girls. The girls were in a chicken tractor. They should be starting to lay pretty soon.

This is one of my divided coops.

Well we have a naturesform incubator and a Dickeys to hatch out in. We have most colors of the silkies all the standard colors and the lavender and porcelain. We have just built a new barn so all silkie chicks are seperated into SQ and PQ.
