Who's Incubating in Nov. 2011 ?

Well out of 120 White Leghorn eggs 112 hatched and out of the 58 Silkie eggs 55 hatched so I am very happy with that turnout.

I got 20 lemon cuckoo orpingtons going into lockdown on the 18th, hatching on the 21st. And Another batch of Lavender Orpingtons and Birchen Marans going into the incubator on Sunday. I enjoy hatching all winter then by spring they should be laying. I have a warm place to raise chicks though, and that helps a lot. Wishing everyone good luck on their hatches!

I am incubating for the first time. A friend loaned me her Brinsea and I have 15 eggs in it, all bantams. She wanted me to try it as her hatch rate hasn't been good and thought maybe it was her eggs. I think mine are good since I had a Wyandotte hatch two out of three of the same type of eggs about 3 weeks ago. I put them in 11/12 so they're just beginning. I hope all goes well. Three of the eggs might not do anything. I just added them because.....

The 18th will be lock down for my first batch.

It was going to be 25, but I did have two quitters. One had a crack and the other was a pullet's first egg. So, not too big of a surprise. It never fails, I always get eggcited (excited) when it comes to hatch day. Just got to stay calm.

and wait. I know I'm not the only one, but that doesn't help much.

broody hen hopped off her eggs for brekky and a drink. Got my son to do a quick egg count. she is sitting on 13 eggs! So plus mine in the incubator that takes me to 22 new chickens if all hatch!!

Im a bit worried though, its forcast for 39 tomorrow and 41 on friday so i hope she has plenty to drink

I don't think 39 will hurt. My broody sat on her eggs when it dropped to 28 and she did fine. I just made sure the water wasn't frozen.

Eggs set the last coupled days of October started pipping yesterday at day 18. Happy Hatching!

We just moved out 3 Marans chickies out to the big pen. I took some pics and posted them and even made a video of them in their new pen.

Videos are the lastest craze on my website.

I'm dedicated to posting one new video a day (not always a chicken video). I'm hoping to test out the video recording quality on my husband's phone compared to mine (to hopefully talk him into letting me have a new, better phone).

We also added 3 BB Red OEG bantam eggs to the incubator. I'm still trying to figure out how my son found 3 eggs in their pen's nest box today. He confessed the last time he checked for eggs was last week, because he was checking every day last week and nothing. With the weather being warmer, we hope to get more eggs from them and from some of the other hens we are waiting on would be nice too !

My little one is going to show our 2 vaulted skull silkies at the Fair. They have to have their Animal Registration forms turned in this week and it requires a pic. The Fair isn't until the end of Feb. So, we'll see which one does better, the black or the splash. We only have 3 vaulted skull silkies out of about 30 chicks.

I love chickies. I can't wait for our one BB Red OEG to hatch next week ! And to start incubating the Ameraucana eggs ! Oh yeah, my little one is going to show 3 of his older brother's Ameraucanas of Standard Colors in the Fair too. They are allowed 6 animals each for judging.

My oldest one is set on winning better awards this year. He's showing the best of his best ! (Just Golden Sebrights - 4, and BB Red OEG bantams - 2).

Do you ever take videos of your chickens ? I can't wait for chickies to start video recording them !

PQ = poor quality ?

How much of a price difference is there between SQ and PQ ? My 12 yr. old has been setting the prices on his chickens. We haven't sorted each breed into SQ and PQ yet in terms of prices. Something he'll need to figure out (marketing of his birds) for himself as part of running his own chicken business.

That must be fun to raise all Silkies.

My only chickens (a whopping 7 of them) are all Splash. I just love them to death. I suppose I would love the white ones too, but splash have a little more variety in their color, not just one color.

The PQ is Pet Quality where it might have been born with six toes or the feet did not feather out enough for it to be show quality. I will take pics as soon as they come out of the hatcher. I can count right at 30 Silkies that have hatched already and about 75 of the White Leghorns. As chicks I sell mine for 5.00 each except for the Lavender and Porcelain they are a little higher. We enjoy doing this and just want people to be able to own them at a resonable price.

p.s. There's one more breed, I can't remember the name, but I would recognize it if I saw it, that also is a "crested" chicken. It's kind of like a Polish...a Sultan ? (Is that right?)
