Who's starting today???UPDATE, Day 9 big bummer.

I'm never candling again as long as I live. Nothing I read said not to turn the eggs upside down, it all just said to candle from the fat end. So I've been making shakes outta my chicks turning them over onto a light. Stupid, stupid me.

Not sure what you mean robinaggie. I turn my eggs while I candle them, never had any problems.

I do not candle the last three days, so they can get into position and stay humid, but otherwise I have not heard anything about not turning them.

I started three different batches this last week

I am on Day 8! I candled last night and thought two were yolkers for sure! Well, one did have a chick even though the Egg was clear as day! How did that happen?

Well it was a good learning experience for my two little cousins, and the little embryo didn't even move, so I wonder if it was a quitter anyways. I know now to wait longer before cracking any open...So 20 eggs now down to 18, they are all looking good with babies jumping away in them!

I just candled and am so bummed. Over half the eggs weren't fertile. Kind of disappointed in the MSU poultry program. So much for selling fertile hatching eggs. I only have 2 out of 9 aracaunas still going, 5 out of 9 buff orpingtons, 4 out of 7 RIR, and 5 out of 12 Salmon Faverolles. Very disappointing

I put 40 eggs in the incubator on Friday morning. Most of them are Silkies from BamaChicken and the rest are from my own stash.
I sure hope to have a good hatch. My last one was a washout......no babies. Most of them were shipped eggs and I should have some more eggs here on Monday.
My other bator will be free on Friday. It has my eggs and I have 9 out of 10 developing!
