I have bantam Sultans, Porcelain Mille Fleur D'Uccles, Blue Orpingtons, and some Marans, one of which is a Golden Cuckoo. I also have Giant Silver Laced Cochins, although I don't know how rare they are.
My rare breeds would have been my Blue Orps and Blue Rocks and Silver Spangled Hamburg Bantams.
If you really look at it, some of the breeds are not THAT really rare but hard to find.....theyre out there but you gotta take some time to look for them. Or some dont ads their birds at all, just a word of mouth.
McCary, your buckeyes are beautiful! So red!
Anyone got some real Mahogany RIR of old classic lines such as Mohawk???? Catalupa Farms had them at one time and no longer raise those.
The reason they are rare is because they are darn annoyingly flighty. Literally--mine fly about as well as a pigeon and poop all over everything like a pigeon, too. If they don't want to be caught, you can't catch 'em, and they are too wily for the old "cottage cheese and a fishing net" trick, too.

Jersey Giants are rare/endangered because they mature late. So there are alot of better layers, and since they mature late, you have to wait a long time if you eat them. BTW, Jersey Giants taste real bad. They taste like worms and cockroaches.
