Why are grey chickens called every other color but grey?

I was in a silkie group on Facebook that was full of people who I thought were experts. When I posted Fern, asking what kind of silkie would she be, I got told:

Silver moorhead partridge silkie - 15 peeps
Grey moorhead partridge silkie - 12 peeps

I was later told to leave that group by an APA judge who knew of it and said most of the people in that group are so set in their ways and opinions, nobody can have another opinion but them, and they're usually wrong.

So, what is Fern? It depends on my mood. :gig Today, she's a silver moorhead partridge silkie.

In quail we have silver and Andalusian and Blau (blue), but they are grey. Then in horses they actually have grey except the horse is technically white especially as they age! Except in Kentucky mountain horses, which apparently have their own color scheme, as I double checked the color on an obvious dark bay, I was told very condescendingly it was chocolate rose, I was afraid to ask about other colors! My favorite though was showing my husband all the cool colors of my new quail, he kind of scratched his head and said they were pretty but they all looked brown to him, at least he’s honest!
That sort of response is why I why I had to ask the question. I tell friends I have a Blue Jersey Giant or Self Blue Old English Bantam (babies still) they're like "I don't see any blue chickens. What are you talking about?"

I've noticed that about most Facebook groups, which is why I'm so glad to have found this site.

If someone is wrong no one berates you, they calmly explain how/why you're wrong and leave it at that.

There might be a bit of back of forth, but I have yet to see anyone on this site go full mental on anyone.

Here, I found this lovely portrait of a BLUE chicken, she's a Sapphire Gem owned by @Icehen99, pic used by permssion. Please note the dark outlining around each feather.

To compare, here is a pic of one of my lavender EEs (aka "self blue"), please note the solid, uniform color of this hen.

I thought lavenders had the uniform coloring? Is Self blue and lavender the same thing? I think I read that earlier in the thread . . . If so I'm calling my new Self Blue Old English Bantam a Lavender Old English Bantam instead . . .Less of a mouth full, lol.

Look at this little squirt. He's the same age (6 Weeks) as the Black Sex-Link and a week older than Buff Orpington. He's even smaller than the Cochin bantams I got him with. :love
