Why are my Chooks not laying in the nesting box

My chickens don't lay in the nesting box they lay on the floor anyone know why.

they don't know about the nest boxes

put some fake eggs or golf balls in the nest to coax them to go there

or leave some of their real eggs in the nestbox

They used to lay in the nesting box but they have just stopped. Only one is laying in the nesting box and we have fake eggs in there 24/7.

Maybe try adding more light to the coop, assuming your nest boxes are covered. Most of the time, chickens prefer a dark place to lay. My father has commercial breeder houses and that is how he combated ground eggs.

Have you checked for mites? They can live in bedding and if the boxes are infested the girls will not want to go there.
