Growth spurts.. don't take place in the form of "fat legs". Unquote. I agree it could be swollen legs or a disease. If it goes away in what a week or two. Hopefully the birds don't die. I love chickens too. OP loves their birds so much too.

Broiler is actually a term referring to age and acceptable cooking method for decent results and really has nothing to do with breed.

Rocks are considered a dual purpose breed. But are one of those used to cross with Cornish.. to draw out the size of the rock with the growth rate of the Cornish.. to meet today's demand for cheap fast meat. Any of today's fast growing meat birds harvested around 6 weeks old regardless of gender is called a Cornish game hen.

Plymouth rocks are considered a “dual purpose” breed, but ones from hatcheries are usually close to the same size as “laying” breeds.

If you see my explanation above.. the term broiler has zero to do with breed.. and everything to do with age at time of harvest and cooking method employed.

Yes Rocks whether barred, white, partridge, etc.. make great table fare, thought more so roasters than broiler because of the slightly slower growth rate. The white variety happens to possibly leave a cleaner looking plucked carcass because white pin feathers missed won't be seen as easily as dark ones. But we might be heading off topic??
