Why are possums so hard to kill?!?!

The possum started like twitching and rolling around? It's most likely dead right??? I thought it was dead the first time :l but

You have to shoot them in the head or heart for a proper kill, otherwise it's a long slow death.

I'm not certain as to why they are so hard to kill, but their hardiness is why they have survived since the time of the dinosaurs.

Small brains, thick skulls, and low metabolisms. Kinda like reptiles. Also, they play dead.
Please go and kill it properly. Crush the brain, stop the heart, or both. Preferably decapitate it to be sure. Even pest animals deserve a clean death. Possums have a very low rabies risk and aren't the fastest animals, you have absolutely no reason not to go out and put it out of its misery.

Somewhere in the recesses of this old brain , I too thought it had something to do with a very primitive nervous system. "Even pest animals deserve a clean death" - I am in complete agreement with this.

This opossum is decidedly anti-social so that will not be good. Bad for bio-security anyway.
