Why can't I get my shipped chicken eggs to hatch?!?!

I'm not so sure the less miles traveled makes any difference. I think the less time it takes to get there matters most. Jess and Suz in California had a really good hatch from my eggs and they arrived in two days. If it took five days to arrive, it wouldn't have been so great.

I make sure that the shipped eggs go in my LG with the auto-turner. I still open it once a day to let it breathe, or add water, and the temps have been holding really well. The humidity has dropped back to about 47% now, but I'm really afraid to touch it! LOL!

After the Blue Orps, I will be done for the season for hatching eggs. Quail I'll continue to hatch, but those hopefully will be my own eggs. Any later than July and the birds won't be grown enough before it starts getting really cold again (October). I'll have to work with what I have. Cynthia, the scientist in me is really jonesing to do the research to find out why they're dying, but I don't have time to devote to it right now. There has to be a better way to ship eggs. So many people do it!

I think that might be true. I had a good hatch from my quail that only took 2 days. The chicken eggs that took a week to get here are all clear.

I'm not so sure it's the distance thing either...I had 14 eggs sent from Washington State to here in WV...they left on Friday and arrived Monday morning, so a 4 day trip...I hatched out 12 of the 14....go figure.....

I have had eggs shipped from the same state at the same time...hatched 10 for 12 and zippo on the others.....

I got my first eggs in 5 days and I got 4 out of 6. Really 5 out of 6 because one was not fertile.

Having said that, my second batch of eggs also took 5 days and we are on day 26 and I don't think they will hatch but still hoping of course.

Well, I'm going to have to do some sort of nekkid pagan ritual to get these eggs to hatch for me...

Don't worry... lots of trees... neighbors won't care.

These eggs are going to be babied like they've never been babied before...

Well I had just as good of luck with shipped as local in my LG's (only 2 batches) I have locals in 2 hova's 1588's now due June 1st

One thing I noticed is that most didn't pip the membrane at all ( out of 15 in first batch 2 piped membrane out of 6 in the second batch 1 pipped the membrane) they just look like they laid there and did nothing to even attempt to get out. That bothered me. Also the shells were really hard like baked clay but it didn't matter as they never attempted to leave the egg. Do you think that as the egg sits and the shell bakes that it could be cutting off oxegen flow and they smother in there. I know it sounds stupid but what do ya think. And how would you fix that.

I noticed that the membrane in a couple of the eggs that went to day 21 were white and rubbery, and kind of thick. They died at about day 19-20. I could see that if the humidity is too low, the membrane would dry out and oxygen would not flow between the shell and the chick. All the more reason to bump it up a bit, I guess.

keeping my fingers crossed for you, Jean! I got a call from Ideal yesterday about the fact that they're done with the Dorkings for this year, but I stayed on the waiting list, so I'll be at the top of the list for next season.

I have 3 SGDs (one in the incubator, two under a Silkie) that are about a week away from hatch date, so

for me, too. The seem to be doing well (smaller airsac, movement), so I'm hopeful that I'll maybe get one more.

I had 9 SGDs and 6 GLW eggs shipped from Nebraska that took a week to get here... all but one is clear, and the one has a bloodring.

There's $30 I'll never see again.
