Why did the rooster cross the road?

Ask at your local feed store for an all flock feed, then when you add hens you can offer them oystershell on the side for extra calcium. You can still feed him scratch and other things as treats though.

You can and probably should deworm him, as a precaution. Valbazen is a very good dewormer. Also dust him with a good quality poultry dust for mites and other bugs (ask at the feedstore what they have avaialbe). If you want to you can add a few drops or organic apple cider vinegar (ACV) to his drink water now and then. It'll give him a nice health boost.

Adult hens... try Craig's List. I hear there are often hens for sale on there. And look for your state thread here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you Maybe someone close to you can help.

Enjoy your beautiful rooster! I'm glad to hear his story's ending well for him

What a lucky rooster to find such a nice person! Welcome to the world of chicken keeping. You'll love it!

I am awaiting my order of three chicken diapers, ordered from a BYCer (go check the Buy Sell Trade area, look in the "Everything Else" section).

Now, I really AM a sensible person with a large flock of chickens, a bunch of ducks, two geese and three turkeys. They have their own large coop, everything else is pretty normal, but I have a special needs White Crested Black Polish rooster which has been picked on so badly he has limited sight in one eye. I've healed him up from the crest-pecking three separate times. He's gonna be a house chicken now. He goes outside during the day -when he wants to - and comes inside when everybody else goes to roost in the coop.

He's getting his diaper made from fabric with a pirate theme, shills and cross-bones. Hehehehehe.
