The "comb" is that red thing that sits right above the beak. Usually a young rooster's comb is larger than a pullets of the same age. Their feet tend to be bigger also and their tail feathers will grow in a down-ward curve. Seems like some years the rooster/pullet ratio is much in favor of rooster's and one only needs just so many roosters so they must be placed in new homes or made the guest of honor at the dinner table. I butcher them while still young, that way they are very tender and tasty fried. Much better tasting than from the grocery store. A full grown rooster will chew about like boot leather!
