My Golden Retriever caught a mouse two days ago and the MOUSECYCLE is still around outside ...he has loved it to death !! and today he is rolling on it....
Meanwhile my black Lab is trying her darnest to bring it in the house to try and hide it ....ahhhh!!!
I know I have to get it away from them so i can throw it in the garbage....but I was wondering if anyone knows why they take such great pride in rollin' in dead animals.....thank God its winter !!!

Years ago our old black lab rolled in a dead ground hog at my in laws farm in the middle of my daughters outdoor Christining celebration....well he brought it to the party to show everyone and was very proud of himself....hubby had to change out of his suit to wash him with the hose because he stunk !!! ...we laugh at it now !!

It's a wolf thing. Rolling in dead animals disguises their scent when hunting.

Dogs roll in stinky things for many reasons...most likely to cover up their own scent with the "perfume" of dead things...our WORST was when Cash found a VERY dead pile of fish guts and it was about 110 degrees outside. Of course, we were MILES from home and he had to get back in the car!

My question is why are they friendlier after they've rolled in something gross?
