Hey guys so one of four of my chickens has started two weeks ago, we have gotten 9-10 eggs so far. She always lays in the afternoon, so we get them every other day. Also she is laying very tiny eggs, she always has, i know they are like that and they get bigger, but when do they get bigger. The two that could possibly be laying are my brahma or my cuckoo maran who are both 25 weeks. is there something wrong, can i do something, or is that natural.

First, I have to ask, what is tiny? Not all breeds lay large eggs. A choice between the two you mentioned I would guess it's the marans. Pics of the eggs would help see if there's anything wrong about them. Are the shells good thickness and proper shape? When opened is the yolk/whites normal? Have there been any any shell less or "rubber" eggs? Listing their diet may also help.

I am curious on this too. My girls have been laying about 3 weeks, and the eggs are about 1/2 the size of a medium store bought eggs (pic to follow. Brown eggs are ours, white is store bought)

They eat layer small pellets (local brand) and have some free range time.
Egg shells are nice & thick, yolks are a bright yellow. Very yummy!

To me they look normal sized. Store bought eggs are "sized" at packaging with most being deemed smaller. There non large, xlarge eggs get processed and sent out as powdered egg, or pre scrambled products for restaurant or factory use. Those you have there look about average for what I see from a mixed backyard flock.

Ok! I do get some eggs from a friend, and hers tend to be larger as well (mixed flock) so maybe I just have smaller layers :)

Not all hens of a certain breed lay exactly the same size eggs, even when they mature. There can be a lot of difference between one Marans to the next in egg size, even if they were hatched on the same day and started laying at the same time. Each chicken is an individual and don't necessarily follow breed norms. Your Marans may not lay as dark of an egg as you might expect either, again part of them being individuals.

How fast do the eggs get bigger? Do you have some way to accurately compare the size of the first egg to your latest? It's a gradual increase, not much difference from one egg to the next. Unless I have a good way to compare I'd have trouble going back a couple of weeks and getting it right. It would be nice if you had weighed the first ones.

In the thread linked below one of our members kept track of how fast his eggs got bigger. His are Rhode Island Reds, he probably feeds them differently than you do, and his numbers are averages not tracking an individual. You may be able to get a feel for what you can expect.

If you could compare your first couple of eggs with what you are getting now you should have some increase in size. After a month of laying it should be really noticeable. The eggs will continue to get larger the longer they lay, but the rate increase will slow down. After they go through their first adult molt you are likely to see a jump in egg size when they start back up.

All my birds lay larger eggs or normal size eggs. these eggs i assume are fart eggs. And they have not grown since they started laying.

Mine are about 1/3 the size of your eggs and the shells are extremely thick, the whites and yolk are normal.
