Why do my buff silkie chicks? ( Pics added)

its just weird to me they have a nice color on legs ect, I notice there wing feather that is coming is has alot of black in one of them.

I just don't know what to make of the yellowish color on the combs.

I have only raised white silkie chicks from day olds and never noticed any yellowish coloring on the combs at all.

so far they look like they have correct combs I noticed they have alot of black in their wing feathers.

So far the yellowish color on the combs has left from 2 of the chicks but the smallest one still has it.

Where did you get the chicks from, a hatchery, eggs, a breeder?
Buff breeders try to produce the clearest buffs possible, whereas hatcheries dont care about that, as they are pet quality. About the yellow in the combs, since its gone away on the other 2 then I wouldnt worry, and just wait until the other one has the yellowing go away to.

Mine are white, but the same age as yours. They are not from a hatchery but a breeder. I will have to examine them tonight. I know that some of mine have really heavy yellow pigment on their skulls that seems to be fading. The profuse fluff was kind of yellow powder chunked together and is now breaking apart. Hope this may help. These pics are from Day 2. Will take more close-ups this weekend.

The more I look, is that darker chick something different, silkie experts?

I just edited my post to ask that question. It is getting lighter, but still a different shade. I got them from TN. PM me if you want their address.(Sorry to impose on current thread).

Teresa I am sorry I haven't had time to take pics of the two Ideal Buffs I have. I can tell you that all three of my original ones were very pale skinned in the head area and have gotten darker as they have grown. I believe I have one roo and one pullet, but could be wrong. The bigger of the two is a brassier cream color and has a really red comb developing. I think that is the roo. The littlest one is very little. She is not nearly as fluffy as the bigger one and has a lot of black intermixed in her feathers. Her coloring is much more pale in cream. I know it is called buff in chickens - just use to talking guinea pig terms! LOLOL

I purchased mine knowning full well that they are not show stock. I think that we got some really nice ones in other colors though. One of the Partridge pullets is really nice looking. All their temperments are wonderful.

Enjoy them and watch them grow. It maybe that the skin color is light because of their feather coloring.

I will work on pics for you after this weekend. I have to head out early to a horse show.
