I was wondering why chickens need a coop while my quail don’t, I can understand in places that get very cold, but in more mild weathered places, Is a coop really necessary? I have a roofed run so it would be dry

Predators.

My run is predator proof, it has to be because I have quails in it
....and you want to put chickens in with the quail?

Chickens don't need a coop per se, as long as they are protected from precipitation and cold winds.

No I have a run that is split in to sections, one of the section is for the chickens which currently has quail in it (I am aware of diseases that can be passed from chickens to quail)
Thank you!

So how would I make sure there isn’t a draft? There is a fence right behind the run and on the one side. Most of the time I hear about open air coops they are in very warm places I wasn’t sure they would work in a less warm place

Thank you!

I am struggling to work this out a bit, most places online say coldest it gets is 0c . I haven’t really paid much attention to the temperature until recently

Have you been thru a winter yet with the quail?

If you get down to freezing(0C/32F) then all birds should have a shelter(enclosed box of at least 5 sides).
