why do my sabastopol geese have smooth feathers

It doesn't look like it in these pictures but the female (the buff) has a lot of pink on her bill and her legs are pink. These are pictures I took last week during an unusual warm spell (We were in the high seventies in south Georgia). I'll try to get close ups of he bill/legs but she's extremely skittish so be patient

I don't know the genetics behind it, but I do know that they come in both a curly and smooth variety.

Since you bred two curly together and got smooth offspring my guess would be that each of your curly parents has both curly and smooth genes and the smooth gene is recessive and the smooth offspring have two copies of it.
