Why do our silkie roos have mulberry earlobes instead of turqoise?

I got a silkie pair from my neighbor who has about 25 of them. I've noticed that only the her females have the turqoise colored earlobes and that all males' earlobes have the same mulberry color as the combs and wattles. Is this normal or a genetic defect? If not, do you know what it is or might be? Thanks already.

My rooster's are turquoise with a bit of white. Could it be a quality thing?

Age will change the colour to some extent; however there is a definite genetic tie-in. A bird all mulberry earlobes would be a reason to use a different bird for breeding. There is a relatively recent thread on earlobe colour on The Coop.

I'm still working at understanding it, so I'm not going to try to explain, and likely botch the explanation/discussion.
