My brother as a wise guy teenager went to pick up sanitary pads for our mother who was stuck at home with a severe migraine headache. The clerk at the grocery store made some comment about his purchase and my brother answered back, "Yeah, and they're for me too!" He was pretty cool then. Not many 18 yr olds would have done that.

Once I woke in the middle of the night deathly ill. I knew instantly that I was going to be in dire need of all things flu-related, so dragged myself out of bed, drove to the 24/7 grocery store, and bought Alka-Seltzer, chicken noodle soup, kleenex & the like.

When I go to check out, this unecessarily cheery clerk asked me how I was doing today!

I glared at him and snarled - as best I could with impending laryngitis - "It's 2:00 in the morning. I'm at the grocery store in my PJs, slippers, and no bra. I'm buying everything in the store related to making someone with the flu feel better. I look like crap. How do you think I am?"

I've never felt so gratified in being so nasty to a complete & utter stranger.
