Why do you like Backyard Chickens?

I bought my first eggs off ebay and the seller bayhorsebonne told me about this place. She didn't say how Freaking COOL it was... just that there was a lot of info that could help me get started.

I found coop plans elsewhere... how I don't know, then I started looking for chicks. Found McMurray. Got my chicks the end of April, started googling how to care for them and found BYC. Been here a bit since then.

Had some folks referred to me by my brother who want chickens... wondered if they could come see my coop and setup. Showed them and told them about BYC.

So they are going to build a coop and get chickens off of Craig'slist. There are always gazillions listed on our Phoenix site.... but usually you have to drive a bit.

That goes for all you on here that Ive had the pleasure to talk with. Ive made some wonderfull, and hopefully lifetime friendships on here. This is truly a site where members are like one big family. Id be lost without the people on BYC now. Oh and my Dad told me about this site last fall.

I found BYC by yahoo search for chick questions, and heve been here since. I too feel like this is home, very freindly and helpful people here. WE all car for our chickens like they are all communty children. Great place to be BYC!

I recently discovered that we are able to keep hens in Portland and I was looking for info and found this place on Google. Got most my questions answered in one way or another and just haven't gotten round to leaving yet, of course I don't get my chicks till Friday.

I found it doing research to see what breed I wanted to buy. Got addicted really quick.

When I figured out how to build my own incubator and hatch my own eggs I was done for.

I was getting my first ever order of chicks last May and while I was looking up questions I had about their care, I kept clicking links that ended up being BYC posts. After the second or third time, I quit googling and just used the search here at BYC and never left

I first saw blue Orpingtons on YouTube and was so impressed that I had to have some. I bought an incubator and found a local guy who sells b.O. eggs. I bought one dozen fresh and he gave me one dozen older eggs; later those all hatched out 15 chicks. Then I realized that I didn't know ANYTHING about incubating and/or raising chickens. I found my way to BYC, and from then on I was on almost 24/7 minus taking time to sleep and eat.

Why do I like it?

I am amazed daily that so many very intelligent, helpful, generous, good-hearted people have chickens (of all things). I feel that I am in a huge classroom with the best of teachers.
