Why do you like where you live?

I dont like where I live I live in the Suburbs and Baltimore is to hot for me and their is not enough snow in the winter. I am also not allowed to have goats or a cow I only have one acre. I am 15 years old though so I have to wait to move up north to upstate NY or Vermont.

1) We have all 4 seasons--lately in the same day.
2) Very diverse population from old style amish to "that's too modern for me". Lot of different cultures in area.
3) Use to be very cheap area to live until all the transfers for jobs, now we're as high as most altho not as bad as IL or MI.
4) Conservative area altho little too conservative for me politically.
5) 30 minutes from anywhere and anything you want to do. 2 hours from Major cities of Chicago, Indy--that's close enough and sometimes too close.
6) For me, great neighbors. If you need help, think it and somebody is there. Try to do the same. Snowy days it's a race to see who starts on neighbors driveways first....we are all about 1/4 mile from each other.
7) With neighbors being 1/4 mile from each other, me and boy pee whenever and wherever(maybe not wherever) we want. Wife and daughter don't understand the joy of this....

8) Lot of good ribbing about sports from PU, IU, UI, MI, OSU fans along w/other colleges. Big10 country at it's finest.

Although I don't actually get homesick for the mountains of NC as much as I used to, there is very little I like about this part of Arkansas, other than the sgt (my SO) and the farm. I sometimes daydream about living elsewhere after he retires, but I know this farm is and will always be home to him. I hate the weather, hate the ignorance of the people (in general), and the town we both work in is only good for the "who you are's" as we call them. It's for this reason that we travel 45 miles to the nearest decent town for our shopping and medical care vs. going to the town we work in (about 14 miles away).
Having said that, I adore Hot Springs, Arkansas and for a big city, Little Rock is great too.
I have become a big homebody due to this. Also, once the SO retires we will probably be making yearly trips to Florida. I will inherit my Dad's place there someday, but hopefully not anytime soon cuz I kinda like having my Dad around.

Hmm...I'll start with the likes:
I like the fact that we have nearly a half acre in a beautiful 3 br ranch style home. It is in a tract development in the middle of once nowhere, which is odd to me, but I like it. Halloween is awesome because we get TONS of kids from the neighboring more rural homes. We are about 10 minutes from the freeway and shopping. We are surrounded by mountains and if we want to go the City, we just drive "down the hill", which means drop ~3,000+ feet in elevation into the San Bernardino/Riverside/Los Angeles areas. We have clear blue skies and real dirt...not pavement and concrete everywhere.

But...I live in So. California...it is growing too fast and our little 2 lane, poorly paved road to the get the Highway now has a HUGE high school being built and a shopping strip center and gas station. We have new developments growing all over, our skies are getting more and more smoggy like "down the hill" and traffic is starting to suck. Our once Rural-single family home zoning has been changed to the standard zoning, but labeled 18,000+ sq. ft. to indicate we have large lots. But, we aren't allowed to do anything much anymore. What good is property when we aren't allowed the rural lifestyle? Plus, it is getting SO expensive here.

Most of our families on both my side and my DHs side are either moving, have moved, or wants to move...not to mention those that stayed in their home states to begin with. So...we plan to move to Idaho in a few years where my Dad and extended family live.

I like where we live. We are on 72 acres of farmland which have been in my DH's family for over 100 yrs. The nearest convience store is 5 minutes away and the nearest city is 20 minutes away. We have cattle, horses and chickens here. We can have our summer "campout" fire's and nobody bother's us. we have the wildlife wandering our property like deer,wolves,coyotes etc. I grew up in the city always wanting to live in the country life. What sucks the most is in the winter when our road is the last to be plowed, sanded etc, and the kids have to walk to the school bus stop. I eventually want to have a "hobby farm" with all different types of animals on it. (since I didn't get my mini donkey for Christmas, LOL). I wouldn't change a thing about where I live except for the smog that comes from Toronto on those hot days of summer!

Hey Lurky, send some of that down this ways,okay? lol I bet yall do get sick of all that snow.
I love where we live.We have 5 acres & BIL has 5 acres beside us, we live on a bayou in NE La.We live on a dead end private road. Hundreds of acres of farmland behind us.
Sometimes we have 4 seasons,lol. Summers last forever, from June till Sept or October.Spring time doesn't last long enough.The bugs & snakes are a good filter to keep city folks away,lol.
I can't ever see us moving anywhere else, since we have just paid off our place.

That must be such a great feeling to be paid off. I know that picture looks all pretty and stuff.....but it pulled tree branches all the way to the ground. It is so heavy and it sticks to the shovel. So you have to hit the shovel on something to get the snow off, EVERY TIME. The bright side of that, is that the kids will have fun because its the best snowman snow ever. I was going to make one for my chickens but i am too exhaused from shoveling

50 acres of quiet tranquility, less than 10 mins to major highways & town. 1/2 hour drive to Canada's largest city, Toronto. 15 mins to Mom's place. 20 mins to lake Ontario. I sold the property earlier this year to developers, but will be staying until zoning is changed. Might take a year or so.

It's the combination of country living & city accessability that made us move here 7 yrs ago. It turned out to be a great investment, & the sale of it & my biz allowed me to retire at 46.

KingsCalls--I lived in Jefferson City ('75-'79) while I attended Carson Newman. My great-Aunt told me that CNC used to be called Mossy Creek Seminary. When she was a student there, men and women couldn't walk on the same sidewalk--men had to be on one side, women on the other.
Jefferson City has grown so much since I lived there! We pass through everytime DH & I go visit his folks just outside Sevierville. In fact, as we drove through New Market 2 days ago I told him, "there's a BYC member that lives here!"

I live in Blountville, TN and I love the mountain ridge that is across the street from me. That's why we bought our little house 20 years ago. There are several cattle farms nearby and I enjoy watching the cattle from my backyard. I'm nestled in a little pocket of "ruralness" while the farmland a few miles from me is being gobbled up by strip malls that the locals don't need or want.
