**Why do you LOVE you chickens?**

Quote:
X2 I love to go out and feed the chickens, and scoop the poop and rake the run and talk to them and hold and pet them and it really helps me unwind after a long day at the office.

X3 If I don't have my evening "chicken time" (letting them out to free range and sitting with them), I'm not a happy camper.

They remind me that life goes on. Like most animals, they live entirely in the moment, and remind me to try that too. Watching them absorbs my attention more than a good book or movie ... it's almost like meditation!

Yes, they are soft. I would propose (don't want to start a war here, though) that Australorps are the softest.

Australorps are the softest, sweetest, most intelligent, and most interesting chickens in the world. I am not the least bit partial, either!

Most days I cook dinner on the grill, and my Australorps are my entertainment for the day as I cook and eat my food. They come out of the woods from foraging all day, and have playtime before bed. They take off and land over my pumpkin patch while practicing flying, waiting for me to finish to give them their bedtime treats. Last night I was running very late, and they let me know that they were not pleased with snack time coming AFTER they should have already been in bed.

My chickens know when I'm feeling low, they'll come sit with me and make these cute sounds like they're asking "what's wrong?". And they are funny! And I have yet to see a chicken lift his leg on a human! (My dog used to when there wasn't a post nearby)

I retired last year from the Army and I stayed pretty busy doing all those thing "honey do's" I always wanted to get done. But now I have run out of things to do. Don't get me wrong I have a dog, 2 cats, 10 fish, 2 acres of lawn and a husband LOL to keep me busy but I always wanted a rooster. Well we got a new store called Atwoods in our city and the rest is history. I started out with 3 then 21 and now I have 15. Which is plenty. Though I need more hens. My husband thinks I am crazy but enjoys the fact I stay busy out of his hair. (He is retired Army too). I get dirty from head to toe. I have been know to sit in the coop taking 200 photos and just talking with my sweeties. I truely love watching them. Super excited to take a few to the county fair with my granddaughters!!! They bring me peace, laughter, and enjoy knowing I need to get up early and feed my chickens because they rely upon me like my soldiers used too. = l♥ve.
