Why does everyone hate Roo's

I don't hate roosters...some of my friendliest chickens are roosters, BUT

My adult EE roo that's in with the big girls, I kinda have a love hate relationship with him. He's so bossy to my buff orpingtons and they're little heads are almost bald for him having his way with them. Before this roo came of age, my BO's were gorgeous, plump and fluffy! He's not gentle at all. I'm thinking that I'm going to hatch a few of their eggs, because he's really beautiful, but then I'm considering taking him to a swap. I don't dislike him, he only does what a roo does albeit roughly, and I don't like seeing my girls with little bald heads or actually witnessing his roughness with them.

I love my boys too and have several. The araucanas are the bosses, they kick the huge ameraucana cock's butt (they chase him off of the hens but he has plenty of babies running around). For the most part they get along just fine. None are aggressive to people at all. In the winter I tend to put all of the boys in one pen so the hens can molt and have some time to agrue amongst themselves.

Yes, they crow a lot. I have grown used to it, while I hear it while I am sleeping it does not disrupt me enough to make me cranky. I have one araucana that actually trills during his crow. I could listen to him all day, he really sounds beautiful.

"I just do not understand. I know hens are friendly and have a purpose, but roo's are so gorgeous and lovable. PLEASE NO BLASTING."

Because they are "stalkers."

Just kidding--I have seen some gorgeous roos. I once had three free range BR roos; the head roo would hide and fly at me with his spurs--Pot for him. 2nd roo-ditto. Would you believe that the 3rd roo didn't learn a lesson! He was dinner because he was so stupid after watching the first two!

I then retired my broom when I went outside.

Although I don't want to hatch chicks, I mentioned to my husband last night that maybe having a rooster wouldn't be such a bad idea.

They are gorgeous, and we're usually up early, so the crowing shouldn't be too much of a problem. Our bedroom is on the other end of the house from the run, anyway.

I mentioned that some people have said that the roosters will protect the hens, and watch out for the hawks.

He considered it a few moments. "Hmm ... maybe that's not a bad idea."

Then .... he realized that if we had a boy chicken and girl chickens

..... the eggs would be .....

He freaked. No roosters allowed! And he said he's never eating eggs again. Especially not our own chicken eggs ROFLMAO:lol:

I never have mean ones, but the problem with roosters is they spend all their waking hours badgering the hens. If they would just mind their own business (like the hens) and run around being chickens eating, scratching and sunbathing, it would be fine. Hey they sound like some guys I know! Always badgering hens.

I love mine. They are handsome and sweet, and this year my silver Phoenix is a proud papa! He gets oatmeal, bluegill and dandelions for his Father's Day dinner. He is very protective of the ladies and the kids, and still lets me cuddle and pet him.

I dunno, I grew up with chickens in the neighborhood, somehow the barn isn't complete without a rooster in it. For preference, a lovely partridge or duckwing-colored one.

I want a roo so badly! Unfortunately, our neighbors probably wouldn't be exactly pleased with the crowing. I don't think anyone really hates roos... It's just that they have backyard chickens and not a farm (sadly...).
