Why does the cat want to climb me?

I'd think it's most likely for attention, although I might be alittle concerned if it's a new thing, how old is she?

I have a cat that jumps on my back, it started with only when I bent over or was standing close enough to whatever he was standing on, but now he jumps straight up from the floor. As long as I keep his nails trimmed, it's not to bad, although he often catches me off guard.

I think my back is just very inviting because I also have a dog (a small one) that jumps up anytime I bend over far enough, and while working on the fence one day I felt something jump on my back, I though Zoe sure did seem heavy, it was one of my goats, Dallas.

Maybe she meowed because she didn't think you noticed her attached to your kneecap.

Well, as her eating, sleeping, and other habits all seem to be the same as before...I guess I'll just assume she's decided she wants more attention from me. Since she's the 'shy' one, its pleasing that she's stopped being cautious around me! My sister thinks kitty has betrayed her.....it's her kitty, but since I moved in with sister & b-i-l, Sonia the cat has decided my lap is better.

I like the suggestions to pay more attention to her during other occasions, perhaps that will discourage the climbing.

Haviris: our goats do that jump on the back thing. Also surprising...but less point feet! Sonia is 3 years old. Were you thinking old or young would be more of a concern for sudden behaviour changes?

silkhope: yes, I had to check the link... but I remember reading about your kitty on your shoulders! Of course I'd promptly forgotten and didn't connect it with Sonia cat's behaviour.

Well thanks for all the thoughts!

I'm glad my outdoor only cats dont try to jump on me. The amount of dead rat and mouse and dirt bacteria under those barn cat nails can't be good... doesn't help I'm alergic to their saliva either... got hooked by a nail once and the area swelled up to the size of a dime before it went back down... didn't get infected, just my reacton to cat.

Guess your cat loves you for more than a hand out.

Is your cat spayed? If not it could be she's going into heat and wants extra attention. My female cat was almost 3 when I got her spayed and she still goes into ultr affectionate mode every so often, about the same timing as she went into heat before.

Good thought! But I don't think that's it. Sonia kitty was spayed when she was young.

silkiechicken: the small dead squishy things Sonia brings in the house are -nasty!- especially when we step on them.....but I've still decided she's my favourite pet after the chickens.

My cat has been doing that since I got her 8 years ago. It is attention she wants from you. The claws are unpleasant, but she just wants your love.

My cat will now do it on command if I scratch my shoulder when she is around my feet, with out the claw

Do the claws really not cause any inflammation when they scratch your skin? Or does it not really go though your skin? Is it just like a scratch from a bush. This is such a new concept that people can tolerate it!

I'm so glad the cats don't bring me squishy presents... they just chew on them and eat them all. It's amazing how big of a thing they can swallow at once. Only occasionally I'll find guts on the door mat. YUCK!
