Why don't people listen... Rant

Fortunately, she is now listening, researching, and making the needed changes.

Thing that gets me, in this day and age where info is easy and accessable, why don't people research and educate themselves before jumping in feet first?
The only opinion people are interested in hearing and following are ones that reflect their own. Confirmation bias also doesn't help when they are reading articles and opinions on the internet. Every side has a solution and a blog to "prove" it.

I just came across this thread so I haven't read all of the posts yet. I had a circumstance similar. A woman bought some birds from me. She had them for awhile and let them free range. All of the birds were eventually gotten by predators. She came back to buy more birds and the same thing happened again and again I sold her a few birds and of course it happened again. She came back again but this time I told her I didn't have any birds for sale. I was tired of selling her birds just to let them be taken by predators.

The system is designed that way, but people aren't very fair to each other. For example, most people have a lot of misconceptions about chickens, including that they are extremely stupid.* When I tell them I raise chickens, they seem interested in my stories about how smart and capable they actually are. I'm probably the only chicken owner the average person has met; if I didn't talk about it, they would never know! Almost everyone I talk to in person, if they are respectful, is willing to hear my point of view, and I like hearing about theirs. Don't assume people aren't interested in what you have to say, especially if you have a lot of experience/expertise in an area.

Tangent:
The internet/corporations/cable media cater to the worst human instincts, including close-mindedness (in the form of confirmation-bias, misinformation, and stoking hatred and alienation). They have a strong interest in getting you to get on their team to listen to only them. Everybody says, "Don't talk about politics, religion, sex, or money," but I actually think these are very important things to talk about! Of course the boss doesn't want you to talk about money: they don't want to have to pay you more. Etc, etc.
End tangent

*My suspicion is that part of the reason people have such negative stereotypes about chickens and other farm animals is a deliberate campaign of misinformation by corporations such as Tyson, who do not want you to question their business ethics. I would love to hear what other people think about this, maybe I should start my own thread? Anyway that's the main reason I think people get terrible information about chickens.

That is extremely frustrating, did you talk to her about predator-proofing? Do you think she's just going to buy them from someone else?

Probably someone else did. We have a farm swap twice a month at our TSC. I have seen this woman I had issues with there buying birds. She wanted to buy some birds from a friend. She didn't give him any money but said she would be back. Some hours went by and no sign of her so he sold the birds to someone else since she hadn't paid him anything and we were getting ready to leave. She did come back just as we were packing up to leave. He told her he sold them and she went crazy. I told him what I had experienced with her previously. I didn't say anything prior. I had seen her a couple of times since but now I haven't seen her in a long time.
