why do people dubb chickens it seems painful i don't see how people bring themselves to it.

To keep the the breed standards (the same way people crop dog ears in certain breeds) and also to prevent frostbite. Also, proper dubbing should be done in a certain season and moon cycle in which there is minimal bleeding and pain.

It doesnt seem to bother the chickens that much really, you can tell it bothers them as you are clipping it but afterwards they dont act like anything as happened. For showing breeds like Old English Gamefowl, they have to be dubbed or they will be DQed a show.

Also some northerners dub their birds to prevent their combs from getting frost bite, which can cause infection and harm the bird so its better that they do dub them to prevent it.

Dubbing also protects the cocks when they are in the fighting pit.
