Why Goats and Dogs Don't Mix (Graphic)

When I get goats and sheep I am going to for sure get some great pyraneese or LGD they seem to work very well for keeping things away from livestock.

Poor thing. I hope she heals up without any further problems.

:(So sad. I hope she gets well soon.

As a mesure to keep my goats safe, my lab stays outside with them. If any dog, especially one that small, got in the fences she would have made sure that it found the hole it came in and went out. Either that or that dog would have been the bloody mess. Well trained dogs with the right temperment can be trusted.

I'm glad the goat made it through.

Years ago friends of ours had a small herd of goats. Their two german sheperds got in the pen one day and killed them all in a very short time. These were dogs that had always been wonderful with goats before that time.

It was a very unfortunate event, especially for their kids. For awhile, the friends told the kids that coyotes had gotten the goats. Later we found out it was actually the dogs.

Dogs of any breed can be taught to leave other animals alone... all depends how they are raised and trained....

What people often forget however.... is there is more than one species involved... when the other animals start to panic and run, this can trigger the dog's chase instinct.... so my advise.. if you have a dog, get it use to your other animals and vise versa..

With a bit of luck, they can be the protector of your other animals.
