Sending healing wishes to Poor Valentine. Hope she mends fast and well. Even with protecting our livestock as best as we can, predators follow their nature and find a way. It can happen to anyone. Eyes open.
That's so sad...poor Valentine!
My neighbors own dog killed her ND goat a couple of weeks ago. I was horrified! They have had so much trouble with this dog killing their other animals. It has killed chickens, rabbits and now the goat. I told them I would get rid of the dog. It needs to go to a home that does not have other animals. She said IF it kills one more thing they will get rid of him. Thats just not a chance I would be willing to take he will kill again he has proven it time and time again. They are going to keep him on a cable at all times now. I dont think thats fair to him and its not fair to the other animals to keep him either. He needs to be re-homed.

Poor girls.... Last year was a bad pest year for us. Even my dog J.J. whom we have had peacfully for almost six years had to be rehomed after a small pack of neighborhood dogs got into the animal's yard and she instantly became addicted. Our worst and most unexpected happening was when my half mini bottle baby pig attacked one of my baby goats at feeding time. It was like poor Valentine but on her little face and neck. All of ours are fine and safe as can be controled now. Hope she gets well soon and both of them can over come that trama.
Awww, geez, Kate, that sucks. It reminds me exactly of what happened to my poor Jack and Lil'bit. Hopefully they got to her quick enough that shock wont be a problem.
And also why none of my dogs are allowed with the goats ever.
That's terrible, I hope she heals quickly. I sold a couple kids to someone, and a neighbors dog came up and reached through and grabbed the smaller one and pulled him through the pen, thankfully they were there and ran him off before any damage was done. When they talked to the neighbors they said, oh he probably thought it was a squirrel, I think these people were in serious denial. I would have told them if he came back I may mistake him for a squirrel. My biggest problem was their attitude about it, they just acted like they didn't care at all, I bet that would change when Fido didn't make it back home. Thankfully I don't think they had any more trouble w/ him.
My dogs are great w/ the goats. My little dog is afraid of them when they try to approach her, the big dogs are actually abit protective of them, especially when there are new kids. And so far my neighbor's dogs (I only have one neighbor close enough to be a problem), although very annoying, don't seem to have any interest in the goats or chickens. I worry much more about the occational stray passing threw (or one of the farther away neighbor's dogs).
