Why has my friendly hen started biting me?

I did a search, but didn't come up with anything particular. This can't be a new problem, so I expect someone here can answer me.

I'm fairly new to chickens, though quite experienced with quail.

I have three hens, and one, a buff orpington always comes running up to me, squats for me to pet her (I know she's actually hoping for a rooster), and is quite willing to let me pick her up and carry her around.

For the last few weeks she's been giving me the side eye as if she's wondering where she can peck or if I have something that she wants. She's looked like she's been about to jump up and peck my hand, but changed her mind when I moved. Once she pecked at my shoe, and twice now, she's come up behind me while I'm gathering eggs and bitten the back of my calf. She drew blood the first time and nearly did again last night.

She's a sweet bird otherwise, so I'm looking for advice on why she's doing this and what I can do to keep her from continuing to do this. I don't want to make dinner out of her.
