I thought the same thing until I saw a chart of what all is made with animal materials. Let's just say that if that is what a vegan is, they are naked and live in a grass hut.

I saw a chart once too that listed a bunch of things that contain animal products that I'd have never thought did....the only one I can ever remember was toothbrushes!!

I agree if that is the meaning of being a vegan they would have to be naked in a grass hut!

Wow, that's really funny to me. I used to have anemia problems, when I ate meat. I also had dandruff and skin problems, and don't anymore, including my much improved Multiple Sclerosis symptoms. You can't argue with an MRI. And that IS an autoimmune disease. My son broke a finger a few months ago and it healed lickity split, his ortho was surprised. My mother had high blood pressure and hypertension, no more. Her fiance had diabetes, that he completely reversed, it's GONE. And I do have a lot of respect for those who raise their own animals for meat. I just don't have the room to do it, and I'm doing great the way we are.

My family has autoimmune disorders including me. We did the vegan diet for quite a long time just to give it a shot and we showed noooo improvement, so I think you need to be careful assuming that it will help everyone. I think you have to look at the bigger picture. I find that I myself and my son do best on a organic natural diet, no chemicals, no antibiotics and no hormones makes the biggest difference, not eliminating meat. He has JRA and on a vega diet, his arthritis took hold of his joints and did a lot of damage, when we introduced organic, grass fed, etc etc, meat, he showed a vast improvement and new bone growth. So please be careful assuming that it helps all autoimmune diseases.

I never made any implication or statement that this would help everyone. It works for me, and my family. What works for you and yours is fine for you. I don't harass the meat people or make ridiculous accusations or assumptions about their intent, or decide what they mean when they speak. I think the OP wanted to share reasons for why some of us are vegans or vegetarians, so we could share our experiences, not speak for every single person. Which I am certainly NOT doing.

Off topic, but I love you sig line Katy. Being a farmer/rancher, I never remember the days of the week, drives my non farming family members nuts!!

I personally think it would just be too much work for me. I have enough to do!!!

Thanks......They all blend together most weeks...especially certain times of the year!

I work 24/7 shift (2 on 2 off 3 on 2 off 2 on 3 off) and I get the same thing have to remember what day it is.

One of my neighbors has been vegan for many years. She's been wanting to supplement her diet for health reasons, and I'm so glad to be able to provide her with fresh eggs from pampered, spoiled birds that she can, literally, hang out with on the week ends. I do realize that not everyone has this kind of opportunity. We're just a bunch of lucky Californians.

That is true of some.
Some don't mind using leather from animals that died of natural causes. Others are practical enough to realize that, if an animal is killed for meat the leather might as well be used.

That I find very hypocritical.
