Why is 1 inch chicken wire bad?

OMG thanks for sharing! That is amazing! I've only seen a black bear once in my life, they are a rare sight in Mississippi, I wouldn't know how to act if I went out to throw goodies to my girls and saw a bear trying to eat them!

Well i had an interesting day yesterday. Puttering around the yard then decided to have a break and went in to grab a juice. when i came out there was a scraggly little black bear clawing at the chain link fence of my chicken run. i set two of our dogs on him, mom and daughter and they treed him but he didn't stay up there and they sure put the run on him. He took off like a bullet
Good thing it was a SMALL cub not a full sized mama bear WITH a cub. I suspect a lot of damage would have been done to the dogs.

I just wanted to add that there is an additional staple option. When I started attaching hardware cloth to my 8 X 12 run, I purchased a pneumatic stapler which can staple 3/8" to 1.25" staples. I have been using 3/4" staples to install the hardware cloth. It is incredibly quick, easy and they cannot be pulled out.

Ya, up here in the Yukon we got predators of all sorts from the birds of prey to Lynx, marten, weasels Grizzly bears, coyotes, wolves etc etc etc.

Snakes. One got a chick a few weeks ago because I put them in the run which only has chicken wire. Of course it couldn't get out after eating the chick so we were able to catch it and relocate it. I am putting hard ware cloth up soon..... I hope.

Please
, for you and your chickens sake, replace that wire with much stronger wire (not chicken wire). I had a flock of chickens and our coop had chicken wire on it. Well, one day we notice that the chicken wire had been ripped from the 2 by 4 pieces of wood we had around it! Don't underestimate those raccoons! They are extremely strong. Not one of my chickens survived, I cried for three days,

...bless their little hearts. But I of course have more chickens now and I love them soooo much! But we did replace the old wire with extremely strong wire nailed in.
