Hi all,

Every morning when I let my chickens out, Blamo, one of them is always first or second. Now, for the past 2 or 3 days, she is ALWAYS last....and not the regular last, she stays in for about 45 seconds or more and then coming walking slowly down the ramp.

Is something wrong with her? She is a Golden Laced Wyandotte and about 19 weeks old. She eats, drinks, plays, etc.

Thank you!

P.S. This is my first time owning chickens, so I am very scared...sometimes about nothing... But they are my dear pets!

There are obviously a lot of things I don't know about your facilities, your flock make-up, pecking order, many things so I can't tell you for sure what is going on. Each flock has its own dynamics and those can change as you change flock members or as they mature. Yours are maturing right now if they are her age so don;t be surprised to see things continue to change.

Several years back I had two roosters in my flock. I noticed that the dominant rooster was always the first outside when I opened the pop door in the morning. The non-dominant one was always the last out. The two roosters got along great, no real issues. It was as if the dominant one went first to make sure it was safe while the non-dominant one went last, making sure everyone was protected until they were all out. Twp roosters working together to protect the flock.

Chicken flock dynamics and relations can be pretty complicated, there could be many things that causes her to be last. As long as sh is acting normally i would not be concerned.
