I'm so glad I read this string.

I've only had my 3 girls for a couple of months, and suddenly they are getting so noisy! Bit worried the neighbours will start to complain. I was also concerned they were unhappy. But, having read this I have established it's normal, and because they've just started laying.

I have 3 RIR that are 1 1/2 yr old. They make loud noises when they lay an egg (this is my cue to go out and get the egg and reward with a treat) - BIG Mistake! Now they make loud noises just to get a treat so I have to slowly stop this habit.

They also want to lay in the same nest box so they make loud noises when one of my hens lays in the nest box way too long. It is comical, but I am always scared my neighbors might complain so I run out there to calm them down yup--- with a treat here I go again. Silly me they certainly got me trained. Thank heavens they are not laying as much with winter around the corner and 2 of my birds are molting so I really get 1 egg every other day.
