Why is my duck losing his feathers?

I was working with my ducks and went to catch one of them. I turned around and tripped on another one. After that he is losing feathers under his wings. The feathers look kind of like they are broken off. What could be wrong with him? Could tripping over him make him lose feathers? He is also very hot and is very tired. What should I do?

When birds are frightened they will often release feathers. It's a defense mechanism that can leave a predator with nothing but a mouthful of feathers. That would be my guess.
