Tonight my girl duck would not slow down for anything. From drinking to eating and pecking at everything in sight at a speed i never have seen in the 8 weeks ofhaving her.however i fed her watermelon tonight and that seems to be the starting point of her wild behavior.will watermelon do this or did i feed her to much of it?what is the right amount for a treat,a cup full,a few pieces?she drained me this evening ,is this something i need to get used to?

I wonder if she may have gotten supercharged from the sugar in the watermelon!

I would back off on that treat, go with something less sweet, like lettuce, and see if she gets overcharged again. If she seems otherwise okay, it could just be . . . wait a minute. . . how old is she?

My ducks act like that when the hormones kick in. Just run around crazy for several minutes, round and round, in circles, in the pool, splashing turkey tails, acting like mad ducks.

What breed is she?

ty and i will take your advice.Today she is back to herself,as we know her.when giving treats what is a good amount to give them at one time?

I would start with a couple of tablespoons. I use frozen peas, thawed out, since canned have SO much salt.

A cool trick I learned from here is to hold the peas in your half closed hand so the duck has to nuzzle your hand to get treats.
