Why is my hen crowing?

My rooster does the "egg song" when something startles him. Is there something that happens in your neighborhood right around 10 am that's loud that maybe you're so used to you don't think about anymore? A leaf blower, machines, airplanes, a bus going by.. could be anything really.

If it is not made after laying an egg, that sound in our family means danger nearby -- like a cat or hawk staring from a distance, mine do it to alert us us of nearby deer too.
I give them something to keep them busy too -- look up into the sky or trees, she may see something you don't see.

I never thought about that cuz I live in town. But that's possible! I will look around tomorrow when she does it. I'll let ya all know what and if I see anything. Thanks

I'm gonna listen and watch very carefully tomorrow. I'll tell ya what I find

That sounds like the egg song to me. It is normal and some hens will be noisier than others. You cannot "train" her not to do it. You may need to rehome her with someone who doesn't mind the song or who lives in the country

that's what I'm afraid I'm going to have to do :( she's one if my favorites. And a great broody hen.

Lol, maybe she's in pain tryin to blow out a really big egg. Strange! I'm gonna have a hard time with my roosters next summer when they start to crow cause we live way up in the land of the midnight sun. Doesn't get totally dark in the yukon in summer, LOL!
